Customer Reviews about Department Water Management:

  • The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I had a few issues to work out and needed to go in. I was dreading going because you know how some city agencies operate but the experience was quick and professional.

The absolute worst. Pretty much run like an organized crime outfit. I called the city to report low water pressure. They told me to report it online. I did and I got an error code. I called back and they told me that there was no confirmation number and I'd "hear from them." They wouldn't take my report over the phone. A week later I had heard nothing. I had to get my alderman's office involved. I communicated with the alderman's office, and they with the water department, almost daily. We were back and forth with ridiculous runarounds from the water department for weeks. It took over a month for them to come out. Finally a huge emergency crew comes in the middle of the night and changes the whole service to the street. Then they say I have a leak on my property and give ME a ten day notice. My plumber found and fixed a leak the next morning. (Why didn't I call him first? I did and he told me "you're supposed to call the city." If I only knew!). The city billed me over $3,000 for water that leaked while they were putting me off and refusing to respond. The thuggery over the water bill is its own story. A follow up inspector tells me I shouldn't be responsible because a water leak should have "pinged" their system, I received no notification, I TRIED TO REPORT IT AND WAS REFUSED (etc etc) and gives me a number to call. No one ever answers or returns a call. I'll spare you the rest. This is the short version. I now have a payment plan that seems designed for maximum confusion. There is no way to tell what the current bill is unless you call them every month. "Owners are responsibly for leaks on their property," they will repeat. Ok, great? What responsibility does the Department of Water have to residents? None, apparently. The. Worst.

Would be nice if they contacted you about shutting off the water. I realize it's a lot of extra work to put a sign or ring bells. But now I sit here with no water when I could have filled pots. Also this is the 2nd time this week.

If you think Illinois is a corrupt state, take a close look at Chicago. We owned a home since the 50's. Rented it out. tenant is responsible for the water bill in our lease. The water dept let the bill run up without notifying us the owner. I found out about it . Got the tenant to pay and instructed the water dept to shut the water off next time its late at all. They agreed. Then they let it go to 1500 dollars without reporting it to me the owner again. This time the Tennant skipped out not paying last two months of rent. They decided to stop sending the bills to the owner and sent it to the rental house. leaving me NO way to know this was happening. Then now several months later I get a bill for 1500 and they are now shutting the water off on the new tenant who has paid their bill. They leave me NO number or person to talk to. No way of resolution . Raised my taxes excessively and now are sticking me with the bill. Now they are charging for garbage and sewer and water and have NOT sent a bill to the new or old tenant and are trying to stick it to me again Despite the legal lease showing the tenant is responsible. Again NO notice the owner of record paying taxes! I will be selling the house asap and Will NEVER even patronize this nasty filthy corrupt mis ran city again! The mayor of Chicago should be embarrassed and held accountable.
